7 Reasons Mastiff Dogs Are The Best!

mastiff-dogMastiff dogs are an incredible breed. While there are over 14 different mastiff breeds making each type unique, there are many similarities shared by all. Read on for the 7 reasons mastiff dogs are the best dogs!

1. Every single breed of Mastiff was created for a different purpose. It’s like the Coca-Cola Freestyle pop machine (so many choices, over 100 in fact)! Just like the soda machine, you can select a mastiff dog that’s just right for you and your needs. For example, the Neapolitan Mastiff was bred to be a war machine!

2. Most mastiff dogs are protectors and make excellent guard dogs.  Whether you’re moving to a new city alone and looking for some extra security, or have a family, home, or property to protect we think the mastiff is a solid choice. Your mastiff dog + warning signs (like the one we have on our fence) make it very clear that you/your property should not be messed with!

3. Umm… they’re MASSIVE!  Need we say more? Didn’t think so!

4. One of the perks of a massive dog, is a massive litter size! Everyone loves puppies, and if you have a mastiff that you allow to reproduce, you’ll have lots of puppy love! Did you know the record for puppy litter size is held by a mastiff dog? Sure is… in 2004 a mastiff gave birth to 24 puppies. Don’t worry if that sounds excessive! There’s a reason this is a world record, but do be prepared for a large puppy litter size.

5. Mastiff dogs have appeared in several AWESOME movies!

Check out our 3 favorite movies that have mastiff dog appearances (for under $5 on Amazon):

  • Transformers | Revenge of the fallen
  • RV | Starring Robin Williams (This movie is hilarious!)
  • Hotel For Dogs | Look who’s top & center of this cover

6. Mastiffs come in multiple color options.  The American Kennel Club recognizes the following coat colors:

  1. Mastiff-dog-fawn-color
    Mastiff – Fawn Coat
  2. mastiff dog apricot coat
    Mastiff Apricot color
    (reddish)
  3. mastiff dog brindle color
Brindle (fawn or apricot with black).

While these are the tree colors recognized by the ACK, that isn’t where the variety ends! The Argentinian Mastiff is solid white! You can read more about this breed here.

7. Mastiff dogs generally cost a pretty penny, but the plus side of that coin is that everyone else and their mom doesn’t already own one!  Owning a mastiff is something you can take pride in!
